The included 1970 rehearsal is a compelling reason for me to buy this, but I didn't like what Matt Ross-Spang did on the Memphis set (although, up to that point, I've been a fan of his work on the Presley catalog). I also believe that some of the issues I have with that box aren't MR-S's fault (Ernst may have interfered in his mixing choices).

Either way, I'm a bit skeptical about how the masters will be treated here. Sony refuses to let go of the "undubbed" gimmick, even though overdubs are still on some of the masters. I like the material that is being presented here (although the 1974 rehearsal does not belong on a mainstream set, IMO), so ordinarily, this would be a must buy, but I'm going to have to hear sound samples of the remixed masters before I buy this, or not, lol.

Same here. It needs to be significantly "something" over and above to justify me ignoring what has been spent on the FTD's which make up the majority of the content of this release and as recent as 2020.

But it'll be very good if it is as how else can Elvis continue moving forward if it isn't?

I seem to be a minority in not liking the Memphis set. If it turns out I don't like this one, and don't buy...I'll again be in the minority.

There seems to be enough Elvis Fans who are fine with the direction Sony has been using over the last few years, which will allow them to keep plugging along with these releases.

But those fans won't be around forever. Elvis as a brand is pretty good at the moment and will get a further boost later this year with another film. But those things are limited. You may think you are in a minority now (I'm not so sure you are) but slowly that will turn around and you will either make up the majority of a shrining market / fan base, or, you won't be around anymore to make up anything eventually.

When this release was first announced I thought it wasn't for real. This could not be a tracklist for an official release, I figured. As mentioned before, the '74 rehearsels... on a mainstream release? But it turned out to be a real tracklist.

I must say I do like a lot of MRS's remixes but not all. Most of them sound very good to my ears, others certainly do not! On the Memphis set, for example, I find the Stax and Graceland recordings a very enjoyable listen (give or take a few).

So in this case my hopes are that the '72 and '75 remixes will do the same thing for me. Also looking forward to the '70 rehearsels, although not all of it is mainstream material imo. And the '74 rehearsel... that's not mainstream-standard at all, I think. But let's wait and see/hear!

BTW... The vinyl version looks very fine to me!

Ordered mine yesterday. I'm still rockin' the "Brightest Star" Cd's from wayback so this would be a nice replacement. :D
