Gladys had been unwell all through this summer with poor colour, loss of appetite & deepening depression.

She & Vernon had been in Texas to be near Elvis as he did his army training at Fort Hood.

On this day, Elvis puts his parents on a train back to Memphis so she could see her personal physician, Doctor Charles Clarke.
