On September 26 1957 Norfleet Turner, chairman of publicity for Shelby United Neighbours (SUN) finally got to see Elvis and Elvis said he would be glad to help out on a big SUN-TV kick-off broadcast Tuesday night. The show would present some of the local celebrities, and the roster wouldn't be complete without Elvis. Shortly before midnight Elvis and his companions visited the Mid-South Fair and Elvis spent approximately $600 at two booths and $125 dolls in a little over an hour. Fair officials said they kept tab on Elvis, that he made the midway in a big way, collected a huge crowd, and tossing dolls and teddy bears back over his shoulder into the crowd as he won them throwing baseballs and on other games. He was still going strong and had most of the crowd at the Fair around him when police made the concessions close down at 1 a.m.
