In June of 1956 Elvis Presley performed a concert at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds. A reviewer from the Tucson Daily Citizen described the excitement: "By now, the girls were jamming around and it was all that three or four burley sheriff's deputies could do to keep them from bashing down the door."
