Urgent Message

Post by ColinB » Wed May 08, 2024 4:10 pm

My e-mail has been hacked !

Family & members on my contacts list have had a fake e-mail saying I can't phone because of laryngitis & I need help !

If you get one please ignore or delete it !

My voice is normal !

What was the purpose of this hack?

So you can't talk to use your phone so people email you.

What happens then when they email you?

Those who responded to the 1st e-mail, which just asks for 'help', got a 2nd one asking them to buy an Apple Gift Voucher
'for my niece who has liver cancer'.

But a follow-up e-mail says it's 'for her birthday'

So incompetent, these hackers, aren't they ?

I've had people contacting me from places as far afield as Scotland to Argentina asking what's going on,
& two family members came round in person !

Good to see how many are concerned for my welfare !

Blimey.

It's one thing to send an email from you but to have all your contacts email addresses to send to them as well, wow???

So most likely your phone itself got hacked?
Have you been using a public Wi-Fi without VPN?

Can you just change your email log in password to fix the problem?

My phone doesn't seem to have been involved & I haven't used a public system.

When I found out I couldn't log on to my e-mail account, I contacted BT who told me it had been hacked & altered to a 'Hotmail' address !

They sorted things out, which included a change of password.

People who initially responded to the 'rogue' e-mail, got their message sent to the hacker, who then asked them to buy an Apple Gift Card
but after the BT 'fix' their replies came to my legitimate e-mail.

I've replied to all those I've received explaining that it was a hacker & that my voice was fine !
